Concern for Kestrels - 23rd November 2006

The BTO has issued a press release expressing concern for Kestrels following the analysis of recent data from the Nest Record Scheme (NRS). Kestrels declined steeply between the mid 1970s and the mid 1990s possibly due to a reduction in suitable hunting habitat related to agricultural intensification. Now the latest NRS trends indicate that Kestrel brood sizes have delined with more pairs rearing three chicks instead of four or even five. Full details are contained in the latest BTO News and at www.bto.org.
