RSPB has announced that it will co-host a new visitor attraction with Ardnamurchan Natural History Centre. This will allow nature enthusiasts to get up close and personal with Golden Eagles in their natural habitat. The new attraction features CCTV cameras trained on a deer carcase, allowing observation of wild Golden Eagles as they come in and feed. Although visitors cannot be guaranteed a sighting , according to the RSPB it might provide an excellent chance for visitors to see a bird in the wild, and provide a major tourism boost in the area. The PBMS is part of CEH and quantifies the levels of pesticides and pollutants in predatory birds from throughout Britain. Work commenced in the mid 1960's and was instrumental in proving that organochlorine pesticides caused mass decline in species such as Kestrel and Sparrowhawk. Monitoring continues to-day and the scheme is now the longest running of its kind anywhere in the world. The success of the scheme depends on the contribution of volunteers sending in eggs and carcases for analysis. For further information contact Lee Walker or visit http://pbms.ceh.ac.uk.
